Huskies start 2-0
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies are off to a perfect start in 2012-2013 Canada West hockey season. The Dogs swept Mount Royal with wins of 5-4 and 5-3 Friday and Saturday night respectively.
Friday’s win was a little closer than the Huskies would have liked as the game winning goal came in the dying seconds of the hockey game.
Derek Hulak and Kyle Bortis picked up right where they left off last season leading the way offensively. Bortis (1g, 7a) lead the way with 8 points including 5 assists in Saturday’s 5-3 win. Hulak picked up six points (3g, 3a) of his own in the two game sweep.
Newcomer Jimmy Bubnick also chipped in with four points (1g, 3a) in his first regular-season weekend as a Huskie.
The Huskies will now have some time to rest as they will enjoy a week off before heading east to take on the Manitoba Bisons. That will give the team plenty of time to enjoy Friday’s Off-the-Leash Luncheon featuring NHL legend Paul Coffee.
