Huskies earn first round bye
It all came down to Saturday night, and the Huskies took care of business.
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies came into the weekend trailing the Manitoba Bisons by a single point in the battle for second place in Canada West and a first round bye in the post season. After both teams earned wins on Friday night, it came down to Saturday.
The Bisons were in Regina and played a rare afternoon game against the Cougars. Regina played a solid game and skated to a 4-2 win. The Huskies then took care of business beating the Lethbridge Pronghorns handily 6-2 to jump past the Bisons into second place and the treasured first round bye.
Kenton Dulle picked up a pair of goals and added an assist in the win. Ten different Huskies hit the score sheet including Kyle Bortis who had three assists to edge out Alberta’s Jordan Hickmott and Manitoba’s Blair Macaulay in the Canada West scoring race. Bortis finished with 36 points one ahead of both Hickmott and Macaulay.
The Huskies will enjoy a weekend off before hosting a second round playoff series at Rutherford.
