Huskies finish off Bisons to win series
Saskatoon — Matt Spafford scored the game winner in the second as the Huskies went on to win 4-1 over the Manitoba Bisons and win the Canada West semi-final series in three games.
Derek Hulak brought the puck around the goal and beat Jesse Deckert on the power play to give the Huskies the 1-0 lead after one in Saskatoon. Shots favoured the Huskies 12-4.
In the second it was Matt Spafford who deposited the puck past Jesse Deckert after a mad scramble and a couple opportunities to give Saskatchewan a 2-0 lead after two periods.
Saskatchewan came out firing and added a third just 30 seconds into the final period (Hulak) and then scored a fourth goal (Jordan Peddle) before the period was five minutes old. Manitoba would get on the board when Ian Duval put the puck past Ryan Holfeld but the Huskies and their netminder would shut the door the rest of the way en route to the victory.
The Huskies will face Alberta as they try to defend their Canada West championship. The best-of-three series will open up in Edmonton on Friday night.
