Morning Water Cooler: Day 1

The tournament will begin today at the Potash Corp Cup presented by Co-op. Yesterday was a great way to kick off the event and we’ll provide a quick recap this morning before getting down to business.
Ron MacLean was the guest speaker at the SaskTel CIS Awards Gala and was absolutely tremendous. We had some time to chat prior to the Gala which was great and then I had three or four minutes for a quick interview which I will post this morning.
Ron has so many stories and experiences to share that you could listen to him speak all night long.
Global’s Kim Thue was a great host for the awards portion of the evening. Kyle Bortis, a second team all-Canadian, was the only Huskies player honoured.
Grant Kook, chairman of the host committee, has done a fantastic job putting this whole event on and Grant was given the volunteer award last night. He, along with the entire team have done a great job and it looks great. Nicole Betker, Bruce Bradshaw, Basil Hughton, Tarra Hall, and the list goes on, and on. Keep up the great work!
Earlier in the day was a media conference to meet the teams. RJ Broadhead and Sam Cosentino of Rogers Sportsnet were in attendance. They will be calling the two games on Saturday and also the final on Sunday.
Each coach had a minute to speak at the conference but UNB’s Gardiner MacDougall took a little longer. He is just so enthusiastic about the game but his speech went a little long. I had a chance to talk to him one-on-one and I can tell he will be a pleasure to deal with.
I will be hammering content here on the site all day so keep checking back. Also, Bruce Bradshaw will be stopping by and we will set up the Huskies opening game of the tournament Thursday night at 7pm.
That’s all for now but there will be more!
