Huskies Game Day Water Cooler

Wow what a weekend this is going to be! If you’re a sports fan in Saskatchewan you are in for a treat.

My weekend kicks off tonight as the UBC Thunderbirds come to town to take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at Rutherford Rink.  I’ll have the broadcast tonight alongside Bruce Bradshaw on CanadaWest.TV with puck drop scheduled for 7:00pm.

Are you disappointed with the Huskies 4-6 record?  They dropped back-to-back games in Calgary last weekend and have fallen outside the CIS Top 10.  They will still appear in the Potash Corp University Cup here in March but is this a team you are confident in to win the national championship?

Don’t lose your faith yet. The Huskies have lost four very close games to Calgary and Alberta who both sport clean 10-0-0 records.  A little puck luck for the Huskies can change those games in a heartbeat.

Although Derek Hulak is among the conference leaders in scoring this team hasn’t been the offensive juggernaut that we have grown accustom to seeing the past few seasons.  The Huskies need to start by getting four points this weekend.

The Saskatoon Blades host potential 1st overall pick Sam Reinhart and the Kootenay Ice Saturday night at CUC.  I’ll be on the broadcast with Les Lazaruk starting at 6:30pm and the Cutting Edge pre-game show.

Then Saturday night after the game it will be off to Sports on Tap for the UFC and the GSP fight.

Sunday will be filled with football.  There’s the NFL and the CFL’s East and West division finals.  They will be a treat.  Not to mention heading to Regina in a week for the Grey Cup so the next two weeks are going to be quite the ride.

Enjoy the weekend we will talk to you tonight from Rutherford!
