Canada West Champions
Saskatoon — They played 17 periods of hockey through three days but finally, in the late hours of Sunday night, a Canada West women’s hockey champion was crowned.
The University of Regina Cougars and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies battled through an epic three-game championship series that was closer than anyone could have ever imagined. Each of the three games was decided by a single goal in extra time with both goaltenders stealing the spotlight. In the end it was a Kaitlin Willoughby shot deflected in off of Cami Wooster in front of the Regina goal that was the ultimate difference in Sunday’s game three double overtime victory.
The Huskies now travel to Fredericton for the CIS national championship March 13-16.
