This week I had an opportunity to go back to my roots as I was tapped to handle play-by-play duties for a pair of SJHL playoff games in Flin Flon, MB.
I worked in the league starting back in 2006 as the play-by-play voice of the Kindersley Klippers and that was when I first had the chance to meet the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon. This week it was games three and four of the SJHL playoff series between the Bombers and the Notre Dame Hounds. The team’s split the two games and it was fun to visit one of the most entertaining buildings in the game (although it was a little more tame than I remember!).
Flin Flon, MB is a little more than 5 hours from Saskatoon.
The Whitney Forum is definitely a character building.
Only in the SJHL, and Swift Current, do you have to climb a ladder to get into the press box.
Bobby Clark and the queen.
At the other end a fitting welcome.
No shortage of history in the Forum. Truly a treat.
After the Bombers’ game three loss, this leg was tossed onto the ice.
Grabbed a coffee at The Orange Toad and this amazing sign needed to be shared. Great place!
Took in the Hounds’ morning skate on Wednesday.
Found Huskies’ assistant Troy Walkington hanging out on the wall. Troy is a former coach of the Bombers.
One of my favourite people in the world, Larry Wintoneak. He was the Klippers’ coach during my time in Kindersley.
Fresh-faced Steve “Hilty” Hildebrand as a young trainer for the Bombers.
Game four we finally saw the moose leg!
One thing you notice around Flin Flon is all the rock.
